Owners Jana Machado and Alex Ferreira started Stellar Cleaning 16 years ago, and according to Jana when it comes to clean. . .it’s personal, because she likes things to be perfect, so that’s what she provides to her clients. She and Alex still do inspections of their employees’ work and have a check list system that helps their workers for final check before leaving the jobs scheduled.

Jana Machado, Stellar Cleaning of SWFL“My standards are very high,” says Jana. “If I’m checking on a home, and it’s not to my level of expectation, I ask the team member who worked that home come back and clean it to my standards. I really think that’s what makes us different. I listen to my customer’s needs and pay close attention, and even sometimes show them what they need, that they didn’t even know. It’s a passion of mine to pay attention to the small details. I see things that people usually don’t, and I really love it when customers tell me that we cleaned something that others missed.”

Jana has taught her employees that it is all in the intricate details that draw attention to the care they’ve taken in cleaning the home. Not only are the countertops sparkling, but the paper towels have a rose shape folded on their end, at Christmas it may be a Christmas tree and at Valentine’s Day it may be a heart. Three things are particularly important to Jana, first she trains her employees to use the right products with the right surfaces and the right tools used for the job being done.

“Too often, I see housecleaners who have been trained to use the same product everywhere, but for example, an all-purpose cleaner may be ok for the countertop, but it will leave the mirror streaky,” says Jana. “So, the first lesson, I teach is you must use the right product and the right tools for the right surface for the job to be done right. We invest in high end products, like different mops to be used for different surfaces, and high-end vacuum cleaners.”

Next, she wants to see things organized and put away. Finally, she wants the place to smell clean. No overpowering from a scented product, but definitely a house should smell clean when you walk in the door. And she always checks the ceiling fans, the corners of the shower and the baseboards, as these are often areas missed by others.

“We make sure to clean what others miss,” says Jana. “Even what the homeowners will likely miss. One of the ways I make sure this is done, is I extensively train our workers to use a specific plan when cleaning a house. Either start top to bottom, or clockwise working your way outward, but always use the same pattern in a house every time. This is how you make sure you have done a thorough and consistent job.”

Although she and Alex have owned the business for years, Jana says about a year into it, she had an epiphany. She realized what a difference she makes in people’s lives with the important services she provides.

“Cleaning everything the right way became very important to me when I realized what a difference, we make in people’s lives with what we do,” says Jana. “Sometimes elderly people cannot physically vacuum their home or carry large loads of laundry to the washing machine. Full-time working moms don’t always have the time to organize their home. I know that our taking on that burden for them allows them to find the time to do what they weren’t able to do before.”
